5/8/44 (5/10/44 - Some Japs evacuated last nite. Bullets flying over head, had to get in ditch. Heard some Japs calling to others last nite. Don't know what we'll do today. We have 2- 15 year old Kachins as guides. Their name is neat prop. If boys their age in U.S. had to do what they are doing and chances tey are taking, they really bitch. No water here, muddy water 3 mi. from here. 5 wounded all day. Relieved by Chinese tomorrow.
5/9/44 (5/11/44) - Having one my rations, had some ground coffee, it was good. A Bn. supposed to go thru us on towards Myitkyina, No water, no washing. Our plt. moved on toward objective area where Jap supply train was broke up by our I & R. Getting water out of buffalo wallows. Bivouaced for nite.
5/10/44 (5/12/44) - Move on today. I hope we run into water soon. I'd like to wash up & shave. Killed young calf and cooked it. Moved tomorrow to contact British. Shaved in ½ canteen cup of water.

5/11/44 (5/13/44) - Moved to another village. 3 day rations. I'd sure like to take bath, I'm cruddy. I niched some plt. quiz kids, they are akways asking me questions. Page died from wounds. Marching today, the hottest yet, some fell out from heat exhaustion. Took bath and washed clothes. Let clothes dry on me. I lost my half coin and dog tags. I've carried them for over 2 years.
5/12/44 (5/14/44) - Rained some. Orange I&R hit Japs. Killed about 20 Japs, we had several wounded 3 killed. Water hard to get.
5/13/44 (5/15/44) - Our outfit going to get in behind Japs, our plt. leads. WE hit Japs, we had one killed 4 wounded in our plt. About 8 wounded in column. Johnny Smith * badly hit don't expect him to live. We withdrew, to many Japs for us. Bivouaced for nite, move to Bn. 5am.

5/14/44 (5/16/44) - 3 day rations. Moved on toward Myitkyina. Hiked until after dark. Bivouaced next to river, Last one in owe's two 2 weeks. Moved out early tomorrow.
5/15/44 (5/17/44) - Took bath, issued coffe, jam and bread to plt. 12 mi. today. Trail clear of Japs. Move out 8:20amm. *Johnny died this morning. I've lost 4 men killed in action in plt. so far. Bushed, bivouaced about dark, others reached here after dark. rained a lot.
5/16/44 (5/18/44) - Move out 7:20am. 8 mi. today. Still raining. Hills muddy and slippery. Bivouaced 5pm, 1st time in a long time.
5/17/44 (5/19/44) - Move to drop area. Put in road block. Moved 10 mi. A Bn. took air field. We moved 12 mi. to help them out. Walked 7 mi. after dark. I got dysintery, ate some bad cheese.
