McGuire Diary 4/7/44-4/8/44 DATE:
4/7/44 (4/9/44) - We pushed after artillery, mortars and machine guns lift their fire. They fire for 15 min. Then we push. I hope we come thru OK. We pushed three times thrown back all times. We had 3 get hit in our plt. 3rd plt had one killed. Our Co lost 3 men killed and 8 wounded. I hope this is over quick. Sent out patrol 2 got hit. A Bn. at field now.

Note: "A" Battalion had just completed it's successfull action at "Shaduzup" when it received word of "B" Battalion's plight. "A" Battalion had to force march, over hills and through jungles, for 3 days and nights to reach the trapped Marauders at 'Nhpum Ga".

4/8/44 (4/10/44) - Our plt. sent out patrol heard Japs talking. Fell back. They fired. Our platoon got relieved by another one. been on march 60 days today. Be glad when we get B Bn. out of trap. P.M. still no headway. 6 wounded 1 killed today. Boy in plt., his nerves broke and another one is as bad. This war is hell. We have 16 men left we had 34 men at beginning. Keiso came back to plt.


McGuire Diary page 4/9/44 4/9/44 (4/11/44) - We have 3-4 man squads. Don't know what we will do today. We took hill pushed on to B Bn. We pushed 1 mile met no opposition. This is the haappiest Easter Sunday I've ever had. Area that B Bn. Was in, it really smelled bad. Dead horses all over & some american bodies. I couldn't hardly stand it. They burried some of the fellow, almost any way. They had no water, had to be dropped by air. A lot of Japs dead all around area. B Bn. Has 97 wounded 19 dead. One of our boys got killed on patrol. 1 wounded by artillery.


McGuire Diary4/10/44-4/13/44 DATE:
4/10/44 (4/12/44) - We relieved B Bn. Hold for awhile. Haven't took bath in over week really dirty. Drinking water

Starting to clean up area burry horses and fix graves of dead. Got plenty of rations. Clem made 1st Sgt. And I was made Plt. Sgt. I should get a Technical Sgt. Out of it.
4/12/44 (4/14/44) - A Bn. Threw a lot of hand grunades last nite. Rumors mail at field. We are living like hoboes. Another day K rations.
4/13/44 (4/15/44) - Slept good last nite. Water is rationed. Sent out patrol from my plt. They found Japs foot prints. One patrol had one fellow killed and one wounded.
