3/31/44 (4/2/44) - The C.B.I. and Yank has big write ups about us also pictures in papers. Raining all day. We had 2 - 75mm dropped to us B Bn. is still being shelled by Japs. They've lost a lot of horses and men. Jap patrol in vicinity on alert.
4/1/44 (4/3/44) - Had good breakfast 10 - 1. I hope the chinese get here soon. Planes straffed Japs again today. Moved back to our outfit. Tomorrow Orange and our columm try to help B. Bn. out of trap. It's raining plenty hard.
4/2/44 (4/4/44) - Rained hard, protect drop. Orange is pushing toward B Bn. Get 75's drops to us today. Orange made contact with Japs and are fighting up hill to B Bn. We need artillery to blast Japs out of their positions. We had 4 wounded ane killed. Still raining. Got dysentary ate some bad rice, vomited some. I believe I've burned myself out on rice pudding. Stomache now bothering me.
Note: The hill that Sgt. McGuire describes is "Nhpum Ga" hill (Later known as "Maggot" hill), where the 2nd Battalion was trapped and held off repeated attacks by an overwhelming force of Japanese.

4/3/44 (4/5/44) - Don't feel so good, still sick. Chinks due in today. Fixing up strip to get wounded out. 5 more wounded. Our 75's are shelling Japs, 2 of ours killed on push. It's really tough going. It's rainy and muddy and damp.
4/4/44 (4/6/44) - Probably get dropp today. When they dropped, about dark, they ran us out of our positions, the chutes hit on our positions. Got some colored chutes to make scarfs. Slept on 3 parachutes.
4/5/44 (4/7/44) - Rained lastnite. B Bn. still holding and Orange is still pushing. Chinks 7 days overdue.

4/6/44 (4/8/44) - Went up to rlieve B Bn. try to help them out of trap. We're supposed to flank the Japs. Tough going, everything hand carried and trail had to be cut, hard going. We got hit. Nick got killed 4 others got wounded, Sutterfield hit badly. No water here. We are in a tough spot. Rained lastnite. Hit the Japs again. We had 4 more wounded and another one killed. 2 Jap machine guns did all the damage. Japs in behind us. We killed one and another got away. We pulled out. Had to carry liter cases 5 mi. and cut trail. Went thro area where they were several hundred Japs at one time. Sutterfield died. Moved to field. got there about noon. ate dinner then movedup to help Orange push. They'd been shelling Japs with 75's point blank. They threw everything at them. Saw some Japs hanging from trees, thrown up there by artillery. Sanders, 1st Sgt. got killed, ricochet hit him in the heart.
