Capt. Ossie Burch of Barberville, Ky., a company commander looks on as Sgt. Morris Anderson, Mayville, N. Dakota, cooks flapjacks on a trench shovel. For both, the griddle cakes were a rare delicacy on a jungle march done almost exclusively on canned K rations; they were made from flour found in an abandoned Japanese camp, together with pork and egg yolk from K rations.
